SOC 350 #5 Measuring success

How do you measure success  Is it by how much money you have. What type of grades you get. Do you pay more attention to in innerworld success or outerworld success
Why do we measure are self. Is it for the fact that we want to know how good we are doing. We grow up being told to be good. It might even be culturally passed on to us to compare ourselves to others. I'm school we strive to get grade knowing that means we are doing good. But is it really good. It's just a teacher grading papers on what they view or how much we understand a idea. Would it not be better I we could just focus in being happy. To get rid of the anomalous that are in the way. Should we not just be happy and base if off are values of things. For me I would rather say if I am happy or not off what I think happy is not what others tell me it is or should be. What are they to say that I have succeeded at nothing? I might not get good grades on papers but that does not mean I don't understand or I am bad at it. It might just be the fact that I have very bad spelling or the person grading the papers does not agree with my ideas or theories.I feel if you are happy with what you have done and you can at least make it on your own your doing good. Even at times if you can not make it on your own does not mean you have failed it just means that in some part or way you need help in a are for now. So I want to pose a challenge to you. I want you to really think of what you base your success on and if that's the best thing to base it off of.

  1. I really like that video! I understand what you are saying, I agree. It is an interesting idea though to create some standards by which to measure and strive for. After all, we're all human and just want to be loved, happy and our basic needs met to be quite simplistic.
